'A Weird Sort of Victory' at the USDA
That's what food activist Tom Laskawy calls the stalemate at the USDA. The basic lay of the land is that the industry is clashing with consumer activists over who should lead the agency's Food Safety and Inspection Service. A variety of trial balloons have been popped. The slot remains unfilled. Why's that a good thing? Well, Laskawy says, back in the day, industry would have rolled right over the activists.
