Jones and Hopkins trade barbs, tout fight

American jazz pianist Hank Jones died on Sunday in a New York hospital following a short illness, his agent Jean-Pierre Leduc who lives in Montreal told AFP. Jones was 91.Jones, who was born into a musical family, was the older brother of Elvin Jones, the legendary drummer for John Coltrane, and of trumpeter Thad Jones -- both deceased.Jones had remained very active in his last years, despite his age, touring Europe in 2009, with shows in Vienna, Paris, Geneva, the Czech Republic and Istanbul.

News Corp.'s Dow Jones is in talks to buy partner Hearst Corp.'s half of personal finance magazine SmartMoney, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.The Journal, which is published by Dow Jones, said the purchase could be announced within days. It said a price could not be learned."Hearst Corporation and Dow Jones have been partners since 1991 and have regularly discussed what is best for the SmartMoney brand," the Journal quoted Dow Jones as saying."We are in talks to transition SmartMoney 100 percent to Dow Jones ownership," the Dow Jones statement said.

The Dow Jones has topped 10,000 points for the first time since October 2008, marking an important step toward the end of the financial crisis, according to analysts.

Kelly Pavlik will defend his World Boxing Council middleweight title against fellow American Miguel Espino on December 19 before a host of hometown supporters, according to promoters.Pavlik, 35-1 with 31 knockouts, beat Jermain Taylor for the crown in 2007 and will make his third title defense against Espino, 20-2 with one draw and nine knockouts.Pavlik suffered his only defeat when he stepped up in weight 13 months ago to face US legend Bernard Hopkins and lost a unanimous decision, but bounced back to stop Mexico's Marco Antonio Rubio in the ninth round here in February.
