    Indian Markets Wednesday Wrap-Up: The Money Appears to Be in Midcaps

    Equitymaster submits: Markets continued to trade volatile right till the end. In the end, they closed higher but only marginally. The BSE Sensex closed the day with gains of around 15 points (0.1%) while the NSE Nifty edged higher by a mere 4 points (0.1%). BSE Midcap and Small cap indices continued to deliver strong performances, closing the day higher by 0.7% and 0.4% respectively. On the Sensex, the advance to decline ratio was nearly evenly split with there being one gainer for every stock that declined. As far as global markets are concerned, while most of Asia closed higher, majority of the European indices are trading in the red currently. The rupee was seen trading at Rs 45.9 to the dollar at the time of writing. Complete Story »

Similar trend was witnessed across BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap indices as even they closed the day on a flat note.

      Equitymaster submits: While the indices came off the day's highs, it did manage to close marginally in the positive in what could be considered as a rather volatile session. The BSE Sensex closed higher by around 20 points today (up 0.1%), NSE Nifty could eke out gains in the region of 15 points (up 0.3%). Mixed trend was observed amongst BSE Midcap and Small cap indices whereby the former ended 0.2% higher while the latter witnessed a decline of 0.2%.

      Equitymaster submits: Indices for the Indian stock market held on to their gains during the closing stages of the day and managed to end their sessions marginally in the positive. BSE-Sensex edged higher by around 76 points while the NSE-Nifty logged in gains of around 24 points.

However, the BSE Midcap as well as the Small cap indices received the rough end of the stick today, with each down 2% and 3% respectively.

      Equitymaster submits: Although off the day’s lows, the markets could muster only small gains during the closing hours of trade and thus end the day marginally in the green. While the Sensex edged higher by around 40 points (0.3%), NSE Nifty closed with small gains of around 10 points (up 0.3%). BSE Midcap and Small cap indices traded weak today and recorded marginal declines. On the Sensex, three stocks gained for every two that ended lower.

    • Indian Markets Thursday Wrap-Up: Energy Heavyweights Prop Up Markets

      Equitymaster submits: Backed by a strong contribution from heavyweights such as Reliance and ONGC, markets maintained their positive momentum during the closing hours and managed to end the day comfortably in the green. While BSE Sensex edged higher by around 75 points (0.4%), NSE Nifty eked out gains of around 30 points (up 0.5%). However, the show stealers were once again the BSE Midcap and Small cap indices which gained by 0.9% and 1.2% respectively.
