    Chile airports resume operations after major strike

    Chilean airports resumed normal activity on Friday, after some 2,000 airport workers launched a country-wide strike that caused flight delays, the General Directorate of Civil Aviation said."The strike caused a slowdown of security checks for passengers and delays averaging one hour on domestic flights," the DGAC said in a statement."There was no impact on international flights or executive, private or sports flights. No flights were cancelled."

      DALLAS — American Airlines grounded flights across the country Tuesday because of an outage of its main reservations system. Thousands of passengers were stranded at airports and on airplanes. A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said American asked to halt its flights until 5 p.m. EDT. Flights into American’s five biggest cities — New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami — are stopped until 5:30 p.m. EDT.

      Travellers in Germany faced major disruption on Tuesday as workers claiming more pay went on strike at airports across the country, causing cancellations and severe delays.More than one in three flights were cancelled at Frankfurt airport, Germany's biggest and the third busiest in Europe, according to Fraport, which runs operations there.German flag carrier Lufthansa said it was cancelling around 400 flights due to the strike by public sector workers.Other airports affected by strikes included Berlin, Stuttgart and Hanover.

The departure board at Pearson was showing at least 106 cancelled flights through the late morning and at least 80 cancelled arrivals.
