NEW YORK/SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Online video site YouTube is in talks with several major movie studios about renting movies to users by streaming the movies over the Internet according to a person familiar with the talks on Wednesday.

YouTube is in talks with leading movie studios about introducing film rentals that would be streamed from its site, according to people close to the negotiations

YouTube is said to be in talks with major Hollywood studios over an agreement that would allow it to stream movies to users for a fee.

YouTube's coming attractions now include movie rentals. The Internet's most popular video channel will make its debut as a rental outlet Friday to help promote some of the movies that will be shown at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

Several major movie studios, such as Disney and Columbia, are suing the founder of the file-sharing website The Pirate Bay. The studios accuse it of supporting the illegal exchange of movie files; the founders have already been sentenced to jail.
