    Wal-Mart: Worth More Than $61 A Share

    Wal-Mart (WMT) shares are currently trading around $58. Its last 12-month earnings per share of $4.72 places its shares on a trailing price to earnings ratio of 12.29. This compares with the sector average of 20.10. It’s been a tough year for retailers. With the economy in general malaise, unemployment rising, wages stagnating, and costs rising, the High Street has been more akin to a ghost town than a thriving selling and buying environment. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Those retailers that have been willing to bite the bullet on margins, and offer customers the products they want at the lowest prices, have seen sales increase. In its third quarter results released on November 15, WMT reported profits declining by 2.9% and missing analysts’ forecasts of $0.98 per share by 1 cent.
