    One U.S. Army soldier was killed Thursday and two others wounded when one soldier shot another, then turned the gun on himself at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, authorities said.

He opened fire from his apartment and pursued people in the street, police said Thursday. Armed with a Swiss military rifle and a handgun, he then threatened to shoot the officers sent in to stop him.

      The army psychiatrist accused of a shooting rampage last week at the Fort Hood military base in Texas will face 13 charges of premeditated murder, US media reported Thursday.The charges against Major Nidal Hasan, who is to face legal proceedings in in a military court, were expected to be announced around 1800 GMT at the Texas army base, US networks said.Hasan, 39, has been hospitalized since sustaining gunshot wounds and has declined to talk to investigators, his lawyer said.The dead included 12 soldiers and one civilian, while 42 people were also wounded.

      A US soldier was sentenced to nine months in prison after pleading guilty to shooting at Afghan civilians.Staff Sergeant Robert Stevens, 25, also was demoted to the rank of private but was spared discharge from the military under the sentence handed down in the first court martial linked to a rogue army unit alleged to have killed Afghans for sport.Stevens pleaded guilty to four of the five charges against him, including shooting "in the direction of" men he knew to be civilians rather than enemy fighters.
