    Two killed in Iran gas pipeline blast: reports

    Two people were killed and 16 others injured by an explosion at a gas pipeline near Iran's northeastern city of Mashhad on Friday, local media reported.Mehr news agency, without quoting a source, reported that two workers were killed in the explosion.The website of state television said the explosion took place in the Mazdavand region near Mashhad when a mechanical shovel struck the pipeline.It quoted Alireza Gharibi, head of Iran's Gas Engineering and Development Company, as saying that the blast also left 16 others injured.

      Three people, including two children, have been killed and 40 others injured in an earthquake which struck Iran's biggest desert, Dasht-e Kavir, state television reported on Saturday.The 5.9 magnitude quake struck on Friday south of the northern city of Damghan.In a separate report, the state television website quoted secretary general of Iran Red Crescent, Zaher Rostani, as saying that an elderly woman was also among those killed in the quake.

      An Iranian passenger plane caught fire while landing on Sunday in the northeastern city of Mashhad, injuring at least 46 people on board, state television reported.Iranian officials told local news networks that the rear end of the Russian-built Tupolev 154 plane owned by Taban Airline caught fire as the aircraft was landing at Mashhad airport."The plane caught fire while landing," state television quoted Javad Erfanian, head of disaster management of Khorasan Razavi province of which Mashhad is the capital, as saying.
