    Two aid workers with German group kidnapped in Darfur: UN

    Unknown gunmen overnight swooped on the offices of German aid group THW in Sudan's war-torn Darfur region and abducted a German and a Dutch national, a United Nations official said on Wednesday.The raid late Tuesday took place in Nyala, capital of South Darfur state, the official of the joint UN-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) told AFP."They were kidnapped on Tuesday evening from their office in Nyala by armed men in civilian clothes," said UNAMID communication chief Kemal Saiki.

They are both in good health," Nureddine Mezni said.The two, a Nigerian man and a Zimbabwean woman, were kidnapped at gunpoint in Darfur on August 29, in the first abduction targeting the joint force operating in the war-torn Sudanese western region for nearly two years.

      Gunmen killed a peacekeeper in the western Sudanese region of Darfur after they ambushed a UN convoy and abducted him along with two colleagues, the United Nations said Wednesday."One UNAMID peacekeeper has been killed after an attack by a group of armed men on a mission patrol... near Kutum, North Darfur," the UN mission said in a statement.Following the ambush on Tuesday, peacekeepers exchanged fire with the attackers, one of whom was killed, but the gunmen seized a UNAMID vehicle and abducted three mission staff.

      Gunmen kidnapped a Dutch aid worker and his Afghan driver on Monday in the increasingly volatile north of Afghanistan, local officials said."A Dutch aid worker working for an NGO (non-governmental organisation) that helps the disabled was abducted today in Khan Abad district," Faiz Mohammad Tawhidi, Takhar provincial spokesman, told AFP.The abducted pair were travelling in a private car to neighbouring Kunduz province when they were stopped by armed men and snatched at gun point, an Afghan intelligence official told AFP on condition of anonymity.
