    Six dead as UN aircraft crashes at Kinshasa airport

    At least six people were killed when an aircraft operated by the UN mission in Democratic Republic of Congo crashed on landing at Kinshasa airport Monday, an AFP correspondent witnessed.The aircraft broke up into several pieces when it hit the runway in torrential rain as the pilot was trying to land shortly after 1300 GMT.At least six bodies were brought out of the wreckage.Aircraft accidents are common in DR Congo but this was the first involving a plane of the UN mission in the country, known as Monusco.

      A plane crashed in western Democratic Republic of Congo Wednesday, killing at least 19 people although two survived, the deputy governor of Bandundu province told AFP.The plane from Kinshasa crashed just before 1200 GMT after being unable to land at an airport in Bandundu city and apparently running out of fuel, Vicky Mboso Muteba said."They have brought out the people, we have 19 bodies in the morgue and two survivors," he said.The Let-410 aircraft was operated by private Congo company Silair.

      ALMATY, Kazakhstan — A passenger jet carrying at least 20 people crashed Tuesday in heavy fog near Kazakhstan’s principal city, Almaty, killing all on board, the airline and officials said. The Kazakh Prosecutor-General’s office listed 21 people as having been killed. The SCAT airline said the plane carried 20. The accident highlights persistent concerns over aviation safety in Kazakhstan, almost all of whose airlines are banned from flying to Western Europe.
