Report: Iran shipping arms to Syria

Following up on the earlier report that Israel had warned the US that Russia was preparing to sell "advanced" military equipment to Syria (in False Flag Broken Telephone fashion), it was only a matter of time before the new US Secretary of State voiced his indignation over a development whereby someone else was providing arms to a conflict country's government, instead of the US providing its own weapons to said country's Al Qaeda-assisted rebel forces.

At 40 years of age, Abir Ramadan joined the all-female unit of Syria's new paramilitary force, pledging loyalty to Bashar al-Assad in the armed struggle against those seeking to topple the president.

BEIRUT — Lebanon’s official news agency says a Syrian jet has fired a missile that slammed into a house on the outskirts of a Lebanese border town. The National News Agency says the attack hit the edge of the town of Arsal on the Lebanese side of the frontier on Wednesday. The report said there were no casualties, although the strike did cause material damage. Lebanon has been on edge since the uprising against Syrian President Bashar Assad began more than two years ago.

AMMAN, Jordan — More than 200 Syrian soldiers and opposition fighters died in the eight-day battle for a police academy near the embattled northern city of Aleppo, activists said Sunday as President Bashar Assad lashed out at the West for sending aid to those trying to oust him. The Britain-based anti-regime group The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the rebels seized control of the police academy in Khan al-Asal, west of Aleppo, after entering the sprawling government complex with tanks they captured from Assad’s troops in previous battles.

The head of Syria's military police has defected from the army and declared allegiance to the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad, according to a video and a Syrian security source.

It would appear the undecideds had it. The WSJ reports that a proposal to arm Syrian rebels was stalled by the White House (cough Obama cough) because of lingering questions about which rebels could be trusted with the arms, whether the transfers would make a difference in the campaign to remove Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, and whether the weapons would add to the suffering.

Afghanistan was once a magnet for eager young men who arrived from around the world to fight Soviet forces. Most later returned home to their every day lives, but some became infatuated with militancy and were drawn into al-Qaeda. Now Syria is attracting significant numbers of foreign fighters, hundreds from Western countries. And while most have joined mainstream rebel groups, some have turned up in extremist factions such as the Al Nusrah Front.
