    • Q3's Portfolio Moves: Changes Adding Income, Culling A Loser, Adding A Hedge

By Old Trader:Because I get a steady stream of inquiries about my portfolio, I decided to publish my holdings and performance on a quarterly basis from the start of this year. As I note in my profile, I run an absolute return portfolio, with the main criteria in order of importance being:

    • Retirement Strategy: Buy On Dips, Add To Core Holdings (Part 3)

By Regarded Solutions:In my previous article in this series (review part 2 here), I outlined 6 stocks that, when purchased on November 23, 2011 or added to existing positions, could enhance our retirement portfolio through additional shares at lower prices by buying on the dips. We could also tweak our yields a bit with these additional shares as well.

    • Bill Cara's Week in Review #8, 2012

[5:22pm ET] I am now on a 10-day holiday, resting up for the annual grind of the PDAC Prospectors & Developers mining convention in Toronto March 4-7. Monday is a holiday for many of you too – US Presidents’ Day and Canada’s Family Day. About the time that Bond and Equity markets open on Tuesday however, I’ll be hitting the beach in Ft Lauderdale. Actually I’ll be there to look for a condo and possibly an office for trading and investor workshops during the winter months.

    • Bill Cara's Week in Review #47, 2012

[5:28 pm ET Sunday] Life, for me at least, has always been a battle between ideals and pragmatism, which I think is apparent in what I write and how I write this blog. Even the title (‘Capital Markets and Social Equity; Perspective and Discussion’) is an attempt to draw you into thinking about the ills of our society while we struggle to improve our life through investing and trading.

    • Retirement Strategy: 'Team Alpha' Portfolio Continues To Trounce The Averages

By Regarded Solutions:We began our retirement portfolio back on 10/23/2011, and this series of articles on 11/23/2011, with the input of our readers. For 10 months we have tracked the performance of this well-diversified and balanced portfolio of strong dividend paying, top tier and blue chip mega cap stocks. Not only have we done well, but we have beaten the market averages handily.

    • Retirement Strategy: Buy On Dips, Add To Core Holdings (Part 6)

By Regarded Solutions:Ok, so call me a fanatic, I don't care! How could I take a week off from writing without having my last article of 2011 be an update of our Retirement Strategy Core Portfolio?

    • Noteworthy Breakouts: Whirlpool, BP, and TBT

Dr. Duru submits: As the stock market continues its slow and steady creep upward, individual stocks experiencing technical breakouts are providing strong relative performance. Last week, I noted that U.S. Steel finally broke above its 200-day moving average (DMA), and it continues to barrel upward.
