Passenger plane skids off runway in Indonesia

A passenger plane flying from Dubai to India on Sunday plunged 200 feet (60 metres) after hitting air turbulence, injuring 20 people, officials from the Emirates airline said.The jet with 350 passengers on board landed safely at its destination of Kochi in south India shortly after the incident, which occurred off the coastal state of Goa.The plane "encountered a short period of heavy turbulence while cruising at 35,000 feet," Majid Al Mualla, Emirates senior vice president, said in a statement.

An Air India passenger jet clipped a parked airplane at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport Saturday but no one was hurt, news reports said. WABC News reported that the Air India plane had landed a short time before the incident, and was taxiing toward the gate when it bumped the parked Jet Blue plane. WABC said both aircraft sustained minor damage.

An Indonesian passenger plane with some 25 passengers onboard crashed into the sea on Saturday near the eastern island of Papua killing all onboard, a navy officer told local radio.Earlier a transport ministry official said there were 21 passengers -- including three children -- and six crew on board the twin turbo-prop plane which took off from Sorong city for Kaimana district in West Papua province."A MA-60 aircraft crashed into the sea, some 500 metres away from the airstrip," before its intended landing, Bambang Ervan told AFP.

Ryanair Holdings Plc agreed to buy 175 Boeing Co. 737 jets worth US$15.6 billion at list price to add discount flights in markets vacated by full-service rivals, and said it may opt to add 200 more by the end of the year. Ryanair will initially take the existing 737-800 version of the single-aisle plane, and could become a “lead customer” for the re-engined Max model for the follow-on requirement, Chief Executive Officer Michael O’Leary said on a conference call.
