    • Sell the Dow and Buy Gold, Silver on Dips

Joseph E. Meyer submits:The precious metal bull market continues to impress and it makes one wonder if the highs are too high and should holders of gold and silver backed funds sell now. Richard Bloch submits:If the options on the GLD and SLV ETFs are any guide, I’d say that traders have gotten a lot more interested in silver – at least compared to gold. Take a look at the open interest in SLV options. It’s surged in recent months. As for GLD?

    • Option Expiration for Metals: Lots of Puts on SLV, More Calls on GLD

Richard Bloch submits:Options expire this week. I suspect many gold and silver ETF investors don’t care that much, but it looks like there could be some volatile trading on or just before Friday. These charts show where options positions stand for the June 18 expiration as of June 13. Large put interest in silver...

    • Using Weekly Options In A Calendar Or Diagonal Spread

By W. Edward Olmstead:The basic goal of a calendar spread (also called a horizontal spread) is to sell a near-term option to collect premium in order to lower the cost basis of a longer-term option with the same strike price. The calendar spread can done with either calls or puts. The basic concept for this trade to be profitable is that the near-term option will lose all of its time value while the longer-term option retains a significant portion of its time value.
