Nintendo debuts touchscreen Wii successor

Nintendo has been making fun into a business for decades and its newest console, the Wii U, is total unabashed fun. I've spent about a week with it, burning up time and extra lives to see what it's all about.

By Peter Pham:Contrary to numerous complaints regarding Wii-U in the social media, Nintendo Corp, which has significant representation in SPDR S&P International Technology Sector ETF (IPK), has revealed that it sold more than 400,000 consoles in the first week of its release in the U.S. as thanksgiving shoppers lined up to purchase the latest hardware from the Super Mario developer.

People are shocked that Nintendo is not going to have a press conference at the biggest video gaming show of the year, E3, in June. 

At the E3 video game conference Nintendo executives showed off a prototype of the Wii U, an updated version of the company’s flagship Wii video game console, that will incorporate a tablet-like controller and high definition graphics

Last week Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One. A few months ago Playstation gave us a glimpse at what we can expect from the Playstation 4. The Wii U is already available.

Nintendo hopes the video game device, dubbed Wii U, will reverse its slumping sales. It marries an iPad-like touch screen with a traditional controller and is scheduled to hit the market next year.With sales of its 4 1/2-year-old Wii console plummeting and avid gamers spending most of their money on competing devices from Microsoft Corp. and Sony Corp., Nintendo Co.
