    By Joseph Diamond:An investor seeking modest long-term growth with relatively low risk should consider buying into natural gas; the question is when to pull the BUY trigger. With natural gas prices near 10 year lows, high production in 2011 not fully consumed, and a warmer than normal winter, there is no surprise why natural gas is so cheap. Whether or not the price of natural gas will increase depends primarily on a strong year for industrials and the upcoming winters.Why is natural gas so cheap?Natural gas spot prices hit the lowest average month price since April 1999. The injection was above last year's build of 23 bcf, but below the five-year average build of 41 bcf.

    • Canadian natural gas prices at 16-month high

      Canadian oil and gas prices are in the midst of a nice rebound after trading at some of their lowest levels for much of the past year. Canadian benchmark natural gas prices shot up to $3.47 per gigajoule,, according to energy data provider NGX. The last time prices traced that level was 16 months ago, on November 2011. Canadian producers have been aggressively cutting natural gas production since prices touched a decade low last year, but are rebounding on cooler weather and lower inventories.
