    Italy industrial orders down 1.9% in April

    Italy's industrial orders dropped in April compared to the level a month earlier, reversing a positive trend seen in March, the National Institute of Statistics said on Wednesday.According to seasonally-adjusted figures, orders were down 1.9 percent in April compared to March, due to a 4.0 percent slump in foreign orders, while the domestic market dipped by 0.3 percent, ISTAT said.The negative results followed a 3.5 percent rise in orders in March.

The ISM dropped from 54.4 to 53.1, below expectations of 54.0, and the lowest since July 2012, with the employment number dropping from 53.3 to 52. Since this number focuses on services, one has trouble footing this with what the BLS said was a jump in jobs in Services sector but one can't have anything.

      China manufacturing is reported to be in contraction and expansion simultaneously. The Chinese government reports expansion. The HBSC PMI says China is in contraction for the 6th consecutive month. Obviously this is impossible, so the question is "who to believe?"       Here is a note I received by email from Barclays Capital regarding Italian GDP and Industrial Production ...Italy: September IP declined 4.8% m/m (BarCap: -4.0%, consensus: -3.0%)Italian IP declined 4.8% m/m in September, weaker than our below-consensus expectation of -4.0% m/m (market: -3.0% m/m), from an increase of 3.9% m/m in August, downwardly revised from 4.3% m/m previously.

    • Italy statistics agency not so downbeat on 2012 GDP as government

      ROME (Reuters) - Italy's economy may contract slightly less than the government currently forecasts, statistics office ISTAT said on Thursday, pointing to signs of a slight improvement in industrial output and confidence in the second half of the year. The government's official forecast for 2012 gross domestic product is for a 2.4 percent contraction, a scenario that ISTAT President Enrico Giovannini described as "realistic". ...
