Those who listened to GT Solar’s (Nasdaq: SOLR) Q4 Earnings conference call on May 23, 2011, were given some clues to potential good news ahead. In addition to polysilicon and solar photovoltaic cells, GT Solar makes “sapphire substrates” used in LED lighting and backlighting for various flat panels. The LED lighting sector is slated to experience rapid growth, especially with the U.S. government requirement that incandescent light bulbs shall no longer be sold after January 1, 2012.
