MIDLAND CITY, Ala. (AP) — Police SWAT teams and hostage negotiators were locked in a standoff Wednesday with a gunman authorities say intercepted a school bus, killed the driver, snatched a kindergartener and retreated into a bunker at his home.

The demand for foreclosed homes is so high that investors have picked clean some of the most obvious markets – Phoenix and Las Vegas, for example.

BOSTON — The Republican Party seems as divided and angry as ever. Infighting has penetrated the highest levels of the House GOP leadership. Long-standing geographic tensions have increased, pitting endangered Northeastern Republicans against their colleagues from other parts of the country. Enraged tea party leaders are threatening to knock off dozens of Republicans who supported a measure that raised taxes on the nation’s highest earners.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Is the tea party getting its groove back? Shouts of vindication from around the country suggest the movement's leaders certainly think so.

Katy Perry is selling the home she bought with ex-husband Russell Brand back in 2011 for $6.295 million, according to celebrity real estate blogger The Real Estalker.

As housing supply continues to stay tight and home sales pick up, prices continue to rise. There were 2.1 million homes on the market for sale in January, down 24 percent from a year ago. And though new and existing homes entering the market are up, the sales pace increased as well.
