    EADS head says helicopter cracks not comparable to A380 woes

    The head of European aerospace giant EADS said that cracks found in one of its most popular Eurocopter models were a minor glitch and not comparable to problems found on some superjumbo planes made by its subsidiary.EADS, the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company, is already facing a substantial repair bill after cracks were found in the wings of some of its A380 planes manufactured by another subsidiary, Airbus.After that authorities ordered checks on the EC135 helicopter, following the discovery of cracks on a rotor.

      European aerospace giant EADS is "working hard" to understand what is needed to bid as the prime contractor for a US military contract for aerial refueling tankers, a spokesman told AFP Wednesday.The European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company, the parent of Airbus, would bid as the lead contractor if it decides to bid, said Guy Hicks, spokesman for EADS North America. The contract is worth 35 billion dollars.

"The cracks do not compromise the airworthiness of the aircraft."

      Two investment companies, Irish and German, will ask a Dutch court Thursday for a probe into the running of European aerospace giant EADS, the court said Monday.The companies tribunal in Amsterdam will hear an application by Irish Life Investment Managers (ILIM) and Deka Investment for it to "order an investigation into the policies and affairs of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company," a court statement said.The parties were also seeking certain "immediate measures" but the tribunal refused to give further details.
