    'Drug gang' clash kills 21 near Mexico-US border

    A clash between suspected members of rival drug gangs left 21 people dead on Thursday in a rural area of the Mexican state of Sonora, very close to the US border, Mexican justice officials said.The clash involved "two groups of suspected drug traffickers and undocumented" migrants, the Sonora attorney general's office said in a statement.The fighting took place some 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the US border.Police later detained nine people in the area, including six with bullet wounds, the statement said.

      A clash between soldiers and gang members near Mexico's northern city of Monterrey left 25 dead, local media reported Thursday.The soldiers had stormed a training camp set up by suspected drug gang members in a northern border region which has seen an escalation of violence in recent months, including the massacre of 72 migrants last week, reports said.The shootout occurred in the town of General Tervino, in Nuevo Leon state.It was unclear if there were military victims among 25 killed, a Defense Ministry spokesman told the online edition of El Universal daily.
