By Trade In Mexico:We all have heard stories about how some investor made a killing after buying shares in a stock that had dropped to bargain levels, and we all want to be that investor next time around. However, the toughest thing for some investors to do is buy into anything after seeing others lose so much money. As a self-defense mechanism, the human mind is wired to avoid putting ourselves in a situation where we see others getting hurt. In this case, we have all either seen ourselves or other get hurt financially in the stock market, and as the European debt issues brings memories of the 2008 financial crisis to the forefront of our minds, our natural reaction is to avoid pain.I have found a stock that appears like it could be a perfect investment for those who like to buy when there is "blood in the streets". • Implementing Dividend Arbitrage: Verizon Wireless

By Angad Guglani:My favorite trade for low interest environments like those found today is dividend arbitrage. Dividend arbitrage is the process of buying fundamentally sound high yielding stocks and selling deep in the money covered calls. Selling deep in the money calls effectively doubles the amount of shares you can purchase, meaning 2x the dividends, without the use of leverage, and virtually eliminates your possibility for loss.

quot; The time to buy is when there's blood in the streetsquot;, Nathan Rothschild (attributed). Micro or Macro? Normally stock picking investors are interested in the microeconomics of firms; their earnings power, competitive advantage and so on. • Greg Mankiw’s Contorted Defense of Mitt Romney

By James Kwak It’s really hard to defend the carried interest exemption (the one that allows private equity and venture capital partners to pay tax on their share of fund profits at capital gains rather than ordinary income rates). You have to give Greg Mankiw a hand: he sure gave it a good shot in the Times this weekend.

    • 4 Dividend Stocks To Buy Before Valentine's Day

By Eli Inkrot:With just 2 and a half weeks of trading left in 2011, this holiday season could be the perfect time to cheer up your portfolio. Then again, for the long-term dividend investor we don’t really care about the momentary dips, in fact we oft sit on the sidelines and root for them. The inverse relationship between yield and price is, in a word, attractive.

    • The Perfect Product

I wasn’t planning to write about this weekend’s New York Times article about the securitization of life settlements after reading Felix Salmon’s post saying there was no new news there. But I was thinking about it some more and thought it was an interesting concept, whether or not it gets off the ground.

    • European Crisis Summit Score 0-18 With Another Coming Up June 28; Is Merkel Misinterpreted? Will the FOMC Move Decisively?

Steen Jakobsen, chief economist of Saxo Bank in Denmark, asks via email: "Is Merkel Misinterpreted? Will the FOMC Move Decisively?"  The misunderstood Chancellor. The market clearly believes Ms. Merkel will, ultimately, not withstand the pressure - and she will end up collateralizing rising debt. I remain extremely skeptical. I even dusted off my school German to read Der Spiegel and Focus, two major German weeklies, which give you a very different perspective.
