    Cycling a virtual Tour de France on the bike of the future

    Tiny beads of sweat break out on Konstantin Domorazki's brow as he races his bike through Beijing's Forbidden City pursued by a tenacious opponent he just can't shake off his tail.Welcome to the exercise bike of the future. In reality, Domorazki is on a stationary cycle at Germany's CeBIT high-tech fair in front of a razor-sharp wall-sized 3D Google Earth map display charting his course through Beijing.

Scientists at the CeBIT high-tech fair have developed a system that gives the feeling of working outside under blue skies.The system, called "virtual sky", uses large flat-screen ceiling panels with 288 tiny light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that can each produce red, blue, green and white -- giving a total of 16 million colour combinations.The LEDs can also create moving shapes, such as clouds, and reflect the changing light of the day, including sunrises and sunsets, depending on the time.

      The number of exhibitors at the world's biggest high-tech fair, the CeBIT, will be down around three percent this year as the tech industry recovers only slowly from a global slump, organisers said Monday.In total, 4,157 companies from 68 countries are expected to display their latest gadgets at the fair in Hanover, northern Germany, down from just under 4,300 last year, the event's host, Deutsche Messe, said in a statement.
