CSCO: A Long Term Options Play

    Sun, 10/30/2011 - 02:08 EDT - Seeking Alpha
    • CSCO
    • John Mylant

By John Mylant: If ever there was a company that is worth looking at, after it has taken a hard look at itself, it would be Cisco (CSCO). For those of us who like to use options in our investments, CSCO would make a nice long term option play for 2012. We have earnings coming up for CSCO soon on November 9th. Anticipation should be high. In a faltering economic year, CSCO beat 37 analysts the first quarter with its earnings results. The second quarter it beat 37 analysts’ expectations and continued to do so through last quarter. Investors are expecting CSCO to continue its trend and support the plethora of good earnings reports. It wasn't long ago that CSCO was a company that needed to reinvent itself. Cameron Kaine is one of my favorite authors at Seeking Alpha on Technology and he wrote a superb article about CSCO's need to reinvent itself.Complete Story »

    • Why I'm Buying LEAP Call Options On Ford, Alcoa, Citigroup

By Kevin M. O'Brien:While I am for the most part a short-term options trader, I occasionally buy long-term LEAP call options (also known as Long-Term Equity AnticiPation Securities) on a company that I feel represents great value. I am especially cautious when I go this route as I must have complete confidence going forward that the stock will have a considerable move upward within a full year time-frame.

    • Seagate Technology: Buy This Hard Drive Maker For Long Term Gains

By Matthew Dow:A few weeks ago, I wrote an article on various opportunities to play the explosive growth of Big Data. In that article, one obvious industry that I did not touch upon is the hard disk drive makers. Clearly as more and more storage space is needed both in enterprise and consumer markets, it would seem logical that those companies who are creating disk drives could stand to benefit.

    • Cobalt International Invites A Nice Income Strategy

By John Mylant: Cobalt International creates the perfect opportunity for a short term income play as it has been in a trading channel for some time now. With the recent mishaps in the company's rig in West Africa, the stock may hit the bottom rung quickly and then turn itself around and start moving up again as it has so many times. This opens the door to a nice short term income play using options to add to a nice long term investing portfolio.

    • Markets Show Concern About Earnings, Economy

Dr. Stephen Leeb submits:Heightened concerns about the economy caused both stocks and commodities to retreat somewhat last week. There have been plenty of disappointments in the quarterly reports coming in which haven’t helped either.
