Wildebeest submits: Outbound and inbound container movements from the ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach and New York/New Jersey are shown in the next two charts. Of note is that container movement is trending up on both the West Coast and East Coast. Inbound container volumes have increased quite a lot in the last couple of months in line with an apparent seasonal trend. click to enlarge

Calafia Beach Pundit submits: Here's an update to a chart (click to enlarge)that shows that goods exports are roughly correlated to outbound container shipments from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

The global economic downturn deals the twin-harbor complex another blow in February as container imports and exports drop. But a bottom may be near. Imports into the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports plunged even deeper into a recessionary hole in February, hitting lows not seen since 1997.

Exports rise 15.8% and 10.9%, respectively, helped by the dollar's weakness.
