    • Jeffrey M. Kaplan

Jeffrey M. Kaplan submits: I’ve been suggesting for a while that the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) industry is moving into a new stage in which inter-enterprise applications are becoming the focus. At the same time, the lines of demarcation between software, business and information services are blurring. Two announcements Tuesday exemplify these trends. The first is Dun & Bradstreet’s (D&B) new alliance with Informatica (INFA) to broaden its recently announced set of Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) solutions, called D&B360. • 8 Key Competitive Battlefields in Cloud Computing in 2010

    • Salesforce.com's New Development Tools Illustrate the Evolution of Cloud Computing

Jeffrey M. Kaplan submits: One of the knocks against Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and the broader cloud computing movement is that these web-based, on-demand services can’t be customized to cater to the complex requirements of specific enterprises.

    • Concur Technologies: Add Some SaaS To Your Portfolio

Although the media hype surrounding the initial public offering of Facebook.com (FB) reflects the promise and ubiquity of the social web, investors shouldn't overlook evolutionary trends in the enterprise software space, where established heavyweights are betting big on software as a service (SaaS). The appeal of SaaS solutions to business customers is simple: Operational efficiency and lower costs, and a compelling proposition at a time of anemic economic growth.
