    China Boosts Holdings of US Treasury Debt

    China, the biggest U.S. creditor, increased U.S. Treasury holdings by $15.1 billion in September, the Treasury Department said in a report. That’s a 1.7% increase from August. The United States attracted a net long-term capital inflow of $81 billion in September, compared to a $128.7 billion inflow the prior month. – Reuters

From the end of the U.S. government's Fiscal Year 2010, the amount of the U.S. national debt has increased by 9.1% in just one year, or $1.2 trillion. The chart below provides a preliminary look at who the biggest holders of all the U.S. government's public debt outstanding were as of 30 September 2011:

      NEW YORK (Reuters) - Overseas investors cut back on purchases of long-term U.S. securities in April, the U.S. Treasury said on Friday, as both public and private accounts unloaded mortgage-backed debt. The United States attracted a net long-term capital inflow of $25.6 billion in April after drawing $36 billion in March. Foreigners stepped up Treasury purchases to $37.3 billion from $20.1 billion in March but were net sellers of securities guaranteed by the biggest U.S. mortgage financing agencies to the tune of $14.1 billion. ...
