    British football risks having no representatives in the quarter-finals of the Europa League as all three remaining sides go into Thursday's last 16 second leg matches with plenty of work to do.Manchester City and Liverpool host Dynamo Kiev and Sporting Braga respectively with City trying to overhaul a 2-0 first leg deficit and Liverpool a 1-0 loss in Portugal.The third British side, Scottish champions Rangers, did a decent enough job in the first leg drawing 0-0 away at Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.

      Troubled Aston Villa suffered another damaging setback on Thursday when they crashed out of the Europa League with Scottish hopes also suffering a triple wipeout.Villa, who saw Martin O'Neill quit as coach on the eve of the Premier League kick-off and James Milner sold to Manchester City, were beaten 3-2 by Rapid Vienna in their play-off second leg.That gave the Austrians a 4-3 aggregate win to follow up their victory over the Midlanders in last season's tournament.

      Manchester City kept Juventus at arm's length in Europa League Group A after a 1-1 draw between the sides on Thursday, while Liverpool and holders Atletico Madrid also recorded draws.City fell behind in the 11th minute when a long-range effort from Vincenzo Iaquinta took a deflection off Kolo Toure and fizzed past Joe Hart, but the hosts drew level eight minutes before the interval with a goal of real quality.

    • Man City, Spurs keep Champions League hopes alive

      Manchester City kicked Aston Villa out of the race to finish fourth in the English Premier League while Tottenham won again Saturday to to set up a battle royale for the final Champions League spot.City beat visitors Villa 3-1 while hosts Spurs defeated Bolton 1-0 to ensure they go into Wednesday's crucial clash between the pair at Eastlands with a one-point advantage.Liverpool could still spoil the party and bag fourth place but they qualified for the Europa League at least as their local rivals Everton drew 0-0 at Stoke, ending their hopes of finishing seventh.
