'Battle: Los Angeles' is projected to conquer the box office as 'Mars Needs Moms' flops

By Darren Hart: The Walt Disney Co. (DIS) cautioned investors that when looking at the box office earnings of "John Carter," its film division would likely post a loss in the amount of approximately $200 million for Q2 2012.

"Battle: Los Angeles," this weekend's No. 1 movie, caused some damage at the box office -- but it was "Mars Needs Moms" that truly got demolished.

Harsh critics didn't have any effect on "The Great Gatsby."  The Baz Luhrmann directed film had a massive opening weekend. 

"Battle: Los Angeles" emerged victorious at the box office this weekend with an impressive $36 million projected take across North America, preliminary industry figures showed Sunday.The film about a Marine unit's fight against invading aliens generated strong interest among men, as well as with a sizable minority audience thanks to its multi-ethnic cast, which includes Latina actress Michelle Rodriguez and African-American R&B singer Ne-Yo.
