ASA Staffing Index Highest Since 2008 for Week 16
The American Staffing Association reported its weekly index today for temporary and contract employment, with the following highlights:1. The ASA Weekly Staffing Index increased to 91 for the week ending April 15, which was the highest reading this year, and was the highest index for any week during the month of April in four years, going back to April of 2008.2. The index of 91 for Week 16 was an improvement of 1.84% from the previous week, and a 6.9% year-over-year gain.3. The April reading of 91 this year was just slightly below the pre-recession index of 93 in the comparable week of 2007. Bottom Line: As a leading indicator of future, broader-based labor demand, the upward trend in the Staffing Index for temporary and contract employment this year, and the index's four-year high for the month of April, would suggest that conditions in the overall labor market will continue to improve going forward. ![]()
