    Arabi replaces Mussa as Arab League chief

    Egypt's Nabil al-Arabi on Sunday formally replaced his compatriot Amr Mussa as secretary general of the Arab League, state media reported.On May 15 Foreign Minister Arabi was selected to replace Mussa, whose 10-year tenure was due to expire and who harbours ambitions to run for the Egyptian presidency.The 22-member Arab League, based in Cairo, is being tested as the "Arab Spring" overturns the region's political apple cart.

    • Arab League chief Mussa to run for Egypt president

      Arab League chief Amr Mussa said on Sunday he plans to run for president in his native Egypt after a popular uprising that toppled veteran strongman Hosni Mubarak, the official MENA agency reported."I intend to run in the next presidential election, and an (official) announcement will be made at the right time," MENA quoted him as saying.
