    The domestic telecom industry is highly fragmented. There are massive players like Verizon (VZ) and AT&T (T), but there are also some smaller companies that can prove to be big winners for investors. That's not to say they are all winners; in fact, some of them you should out and out avoid right now. But there are some companies that could really pop. The point is: Size doesn't matter, at least in this case.Here is my top pick in this sector, as well as three to avoid.

    I am really excited about Equinix. This stock has returned almost 57% year to date and, by all appearances, is still going strong.
