3 dead, 20 seriously hurt in German train collision: police

A passenger train ploughed into a derailed freight train in northern Germany late Wednesday, leaving 16 people injured, one of them seriously, police said.The regional passenger train carrying 66 people collided with a derailed wagon of the freight train at about 11:30 pm (2130 GMT) near the town of Peine in Lower Saxony state, Hanover police spokesman Uwe Borchers said Thursday.The driver of the passenger train was seriously injured while seven people needed hospital treatment.

EDMONTON — A violent collision involving a police cruiser in south Edmonton left two officers and the driver — and sole occupant — of the other vehicle lucky to escape with only minor injuries. Police spokesman Chad Orydzuk says the collision took place Thursday afternoon as a marked patrol car was responding to a weapons complaint. The police car was travelling southbound while the other vehicle was westbound.

NEW YORK — Police have identified a suspect being sought in the hit-and-run deaths of a pregnant woman and her husband whose baby died on Monday, a day after the Brooklyn car crash. NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said police are looking for 44-year-old Julio Acevedo, who had a DWI arrest in February. Acevedo was going at least 60 mph when the car slammed into the cab carrying the couple to a hospital, police said.
