By Epsilon:I am a value investor and, when investing in stocks, I often seek out companies that appear undervalued. Closed-end fund (CEF) values can often be found in a similar fashion. The net asset value (NAV) of a CEF is the total value of all the securities in the fund divided by the number of shares and, therefore, represents the true current value of the fund. The market price of the fund, however, often varies from the NAV. When the fund's share price is higher than the NAV per share it is said to be selling at a premium; when it is lower it is selling at a discount to the NAV per share. As many believe, myself included, that the best value is found in CEFs that are trading at a discount to NAV. This series offers 24 high yielding funds that are currently trading at a discount.Below isComplete Story »

This CEF sell-off, however, has not been a result of an overall decrease in net asset values (NAV) and, therefore, may present a buying opportunity for many funds.

By Douglas Albo: About four months ago on June 7th, I wrote an article called "The High Cost of High Distributions" in which I showed how ultra high yielding equity based closed-end funds (CEFs) which had overly high net asset value (NAV) yields of 12% or higher were, in fact, yield traps for investors and the end result was far in

Street One Financial submits: by Paul Weisbruch No, the title of this article is not the contents of an errant text message from a cell phone of a thirteen year old, but instead it’s actually a headline from last Friday’s market action. Invesco PowerShares debuted PCEF, the CEF Income Composite Portfolio, which based on our experiences and conversations with investment advisors, we believe will gain traction quickly as unique in its class.

    • Monthly Dividend CEFs Selling At A Discount With Positive YTD Price Performance

By greg group: Dividend investors seeking monthly distributions should look at closed-end funds (CEF) to achieve income objectives. CEFs can trade at a discount to the net asset value (NAV) which means there is a potential capital gain if the CEF price moves up to the NAV. I have identified a list of CEFs that have price momentum throughout 2012 that are still selling at a discount. These CEFs all have distribution yields greater than 8%. Here is a list for further evaluation.
